Sands Farm Weekend Camping

The Challenge

Building on the success of an established camping destination in the Sussex countryside, Sands Farm sought to expand its offering with a collection of semi-permanent retreat cabins that elevated the camping experience while maintaining a strong connection to nature.

The challenge was to create a simple, cost-effective accommodation model that delivered greater comfort and privacy without losing the authenticity of the rural setting. The design also needed to cater to a range of guests, from couples seeking a weekend escape to families and groups looking for longer stays.

The Concept

The concept centred on a contemporary countryside retreat comprising a collection of understated cabins designed to sit naturally within the landscape.

Inspired by traditional A-frame architecture, the cabins combined warm timber interiors with durable steel cladding to create a distinctive yet timeless form. Large glazed facades framed views of the surrounding countryside, while outdoor decks and fire pits extended the living experience into nature, encouraging guests to slow down, reconnect, and unwind.

Each cabin was designed as a compact and highly functional escape, featuring a bedroom, bathroom, and outdoor entertaining space ideal for couples. A modular design system also allowed multiple units to be connected, creating larger family-friendly configurations with expanded living areas and kitchen facilities.

The result was a scalable hospitality concept that bridged the gap between camping and boutique accommodation, offering guests a contemporary retreat immersed in nature while providing Sands Farm with a flexible platform for future growth.
