The Challenge
Reimagine a traditional period cottage to better reflect the lifestyle and functional needs of its owners, while working within a modest budget and local council planning constraints.
The challenge was to maximise the potential of the existing footprint, introducing greater openness, natural light, and improved spatial flow without compromising the charm and character of the original property.
The Concept
The concept centred on a thoughtful transformation of the existing home, balancing contemporary living with the warmth and character of its period architecture.
The ground floor was reconfigured to create a more open and connected living environment, introducing a light-filled workspace and modern open-plan living area designed to enhance everyday family life.
A modest first-floor extension created space for a full-sized family bathroom, while new French doors and a Juliet balcony transformed the master bedroom, opening up views across the private garden courtyard below.
The result was a considered and cost-conscious renovation that made the most of every square metre, bringing new light, functionality, and contemporary comfort to a characterful family home.
